AFTER a much anticipation, the Vryheid u/16 Soccer Tournament, held and organized by Vryheid Soccer Academy, finally took place on August 16.
We thank God that we accomplished our mission and held a successful tournament. The initial delay was due to a lack of sponsorship, but we would like to thank all sponsors who made the tournament possible. We would also like to thank the team managers of all eight teams for bearing with the organisers from Vryheid Soccer Academy when times were tough and the event was postponed three times. To them we say, thank you so much for your composure and understanding.
The registered teams, fixtures and scores for the event are as follows: Quarter Finals: Ndindindi beat Abaqulusi Junior Stars FC, 1 – 0. Killers FC drew against Inter Millan FC, 0 – 0. The game was decided in penalties and Inter Millan won by four goals to Killers FC’s three. Vryheid Soccer Academy drew against Real Skeletons FC, 0 – 0. This game was also decided in penalties and Real Skeletons came out victorious, after scoring four penalties to Vryheid Soccer Academy’s three. Amajita FC beat Scorpions FC, 2 – 0.

Finals: Amajita FC went head to head with Inter Millan FC in the finals, in a battle of the titans. Both teams are from eMondlo and share the same training ground. They competed against each other in perfect weather and on a very good field at the Rugby Stadium at Cecil Emmett. At the final whistle, Amajitas came out tops, beating Inter Millan, 2 – 1, in a match that taught our Vryheid teams a thing or two.
The boys from eMondlo played commendable soccer and were completely deserving of their medals and the Championship trophy.
The Award Ceremony took place after the tournament, at 4:00pm, with all teams receiving certificates of participation. The teams who reached the semi finals stage received additional cones, and Inter Millan FC from eMondlo, who were only defeated in the final match, received silver medals, a soccer ball and training bibs.
The Champions, Amajita FC, from eMondlo, walked away with the Champions’ Trophy; Gold Medals; training bibs; cones and a soccer ball.
The top goal scorer was from Amajita FC and received the Golden Boot trophy for his contribution of six goals throughout the tournament. The Man of the Tournament was also from Amajita FC and received a Man of The Tournament Award Trophy.
The Best Player of the Tournament was selected from Inter Millan FC, and walked away with a sensational Soccer Boot Bag.
Once again, thanks to our sponsors for their contribution to making this day a success.
We are looking forward to other tournaments, as well as starting the AbaQulusi Local Football League in future.
