Casual Day fun at Inkanyezi School

Inkanyezi Special School held an entertaining programme as part of a Casual Day initiative for the learners on Friday morning.

Casual Day is celebrated annually on September 5 as a campaign to raise funds for individuals with disabilities.

Casual Day co-ordinator Thabile Khumalo said that participating in Casual Day is an enjoyable fund-raising project. “The learners enjoy the day very much. It is exciting for them, which makes it successful for us, the organisers,” she said.

The programme included praise and prayer by Pastor Mbali, as well as an environmentally friendly fashion show and a talk on deaf awareness.

The highlight of the programme was certainly the fashion show, with the learners making use of plastic packets and other recycling material to show off their modelling skills as they strutted their stuff on the catwalk.

The audience showed their approval with much cheering and whistling for their friends, as they enjoyed the creative and innovative garments that were worn.

Vee Mannilall, a dedicated organiser at Mpilonhle Project, was also present at the event to signify the fact that Casual Day is a collaboration between Inkanyezi Special School and Mpilonhle Project.

School occupational therapist Yuvana Singh was pleased at the outcome of the programme. She commented that it was particularly pleasing to see “all the learners dressed up in their blue hats and shiny clothes”.

What better way to celebrate the coming of spring than getting “casual” at school!
