EMS encounters communication problems

Residents can still phone 0800 005 133 if they have difficulties contacting the call centre.

The Emergency Medical Services’s (EMS) emergency call management centres across KZN are currently experiencing problems with their phone lines.

The problem appears to be an external problem, which is out of the control of the EMS.

Currently most outgoing calls only from the centres are affected, and the centres appear to be able to receive emergency calls normally.

However, if callers needing an ambulance cannot reach the EMS Emergency Call Management Centres by dialling 10177, they are asked to use the number 0800 005 133, which is still a free call from a landline. This is an alternative number for KZN EMS.

If using a cellphone, the emergency number 112 can still be used, and the operators will redirect calls via arranged alternate numbers.

The faults have been noted and technicians are currently working on the problem.
