VRYHEID Moths’ Freedom Shellhole hosted a very successful Bowls Day on Sunday at the Vryheid Bowling Club. Playing on the day were local Moths, friends of the Moths and visitors from Moth shellholes in Dundee, Newcastle, Ladysmith and Harrismith.

After Saturday’s cooler weather, Sunday was more like summer and sweltering on the greens, and after many trips to the bar for the sole purpose of replacing lost body fluids, there may not have been much “Sound Memory” involved, nor “Mutual Help” since it was a competition, but there certainly was “True Comradeship” evident during the games, at lunch and at the prize giving.

Many thanks go to the sponsors who made this day possible, and whose generosity allowed the Vryheid Moths to display wonderful tables of prizes. Special thanks must go to the Vryheid Bowling Club whose first-class facilities and hospitality were much appreciated. Thanks too go to the visitors who came from near and far, and to all the people who helped in the kitchen.
