Nongoma murderer gets 25 years in prison

NONGOMA – On September 23, Nongoma Regional Court convicted and sentenced 26 year old Mandla Zulu to 25 years imprisonment for the rape and murder of his girlfriend.

On December 25 last year, Zulu raped his girlfriend, who threatened to report the incident to the police. He then strangled his victim, killing the 19 year old woman. Zulu was apprehended in December and has appeared in court several times since his arrest, remaining in police custody until being charged with rape and murder.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended Nongoma detectives for thoroughly investigating the case and gathering all the evidence which led to the prosecution and sentencing of the accused.
