No water as pipe bursts in Gandhi Road

Another water outage in the face of water restrictions...

Residents of Gandhi Road are the unfortunate victims of yet another pipe burst in Ladysmith. Since 8am this morning, the area has been without water.

Gandhi Road resident Ajesh Singh was upset at the lack of effort on the part of uThukela.

“We have spent the day buying water and cooldrinks due to the lack of water. 8 hours later, they have finally decided to do something about all this clean water being wasted,” he said.

Despite numerous calls to uThukela earlier today, their task team only appeared at approximately 3pm.

The source of the pipe burst is under the paving of one of the houses in Gandhi Road. The municipal team now faces the task of having to remove the paving to fix the problem.

According to uThukela workers at the scene, they were busy with another pipe burst in Lakspur Avenue and the Agra Crescent area. A spokesperson for uThukela has commented that because the pipe that burst in Gandhi Road was merely a service pipe, the priority was repairing the other bursts in town.

This follows a pipe burst in Jasmine Avenue, where uThukela responded to the situation after three hours.
