Brace yourselves…Thor is coming!
According to weather reports the entire Northern KwaZulu - Natal is in for some heavy thunderstorms.
A quick glance at weather graphs online has revealed that severe thunderstorms are headed our way.
Newcastillians were treated to a fantastic display of nature last night and the early hours of this morning.
A resident in Signal Hill told journalists about her shocking experience this morning.
“The lightning hit our house, causing our one car’s alarm to go off, also tripping the surge protector on our house. We had to run around a bit to restore order. It was awesome!” she explained.
According to AccuWeather, residents can expect three millimetres of rain and there will be a 40 per cent chance of thunderstorms tomorrow. According to the report, Wednesday and Thursday will be quiet, with more rain and thunder predicted for Friday.
Thunder and lightning sometimes has a severe effect on some of our four-legged friends. According to Heather Gero from Newcastle SPCA, the best way to help your pet if he or she is badly affected, is to comfort them.
“If it is an outside dog, let them into the house. Put some soothing music on or the TV, and just be with them,” she said. “You can also give them Rescue or get a tablet from the vet which will calm them down and won’t have any lasting effects if the storm doesn’t materialise.”
She explained the medication wouldn’t work fast enough if the storm had already started, but that one could give it to your pets just in case.
