PROVINCIAL Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the Ulundi Tactical Response Team unit, who recently recovered four unlicensed firearms and 79 live rounds during a raid in the Ceza area.

Four suspects were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. They all appeared in the Mahlabathini Magistrate’s Court and their cases were remanded for further investigation.

The Ulundi Tactical Response Team started their firearm raiding operation as from September 17, in the Ceza area, following up information about illegal firearms in the Northern part of KwaZula-Natal.

They arrested 20 year old, Simphiwe Mbuli, for possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol on September 17.

On September 24, the members arrested three suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

One of them was found in possession of two 9mm pistols. All three suspects, aged between 32 and 50, appeared on September 25, in the Mahlabathini Magistrate’s Court.

“All recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crimes in the province.

“We will also establish if the arrested suspects are not linked to any murders or robberies in the province where firearms were used,” said Ngobeni.
