Vryheid Ski Boat Club – Wynand’s impressive ‘catch and release’

FRESHWATER and saltwater fishing was great this month.

Dirk Booysen and his brother, Bossie Booysen were at Sodwana for some well deserved family time recently. According to the brothers, the weather was pleasant, but the sharks were extremely active.

“After a few close calls and bait that the sharks preyed on, we had a good day out on the Sunday. A lot of yellow fins came out this day,” say the Booysen brothers.

Over the past weekend, a handful of Vryheid Ski Boat Club’s members attended the annual Tiger Fish Bonanza Competition at Jozini.

The team aboard the boat ‘Sweet 16’ were about to give up on the competition when their luck suddenly improved on the Saturday morning. With steely determination and careful calculation, Wynand Harmse eventually reeled in an impressive 3,19kg Tiger Fish, putting him on the top 20 list.

The fish was weighed in alive and then released, according to the rules of the competition.
