“While children are the target group, adults are also welcome. We are encouraging everyone interested in swimming to come along,” Mr Ramautar invited.
Newcastle Municipality has initiated a water safety programme where free swimming lessons will be given to Newcastillians.
Raj Ramautar, municipal superintendent of aquatics and resorts, as well as chairperson of Newcastle Swimming Club development, said the idea of the programme was to promote swimming as a recreational activity and as a competitive sport.
“Lifesaving skills will also be promoted to boost safety,” he added.
The lessons are set to take place on October 12, October 19 and October 26 from 8am to 9am, at Suryaville Municipal Swimming Pool.
“While children are the target group, adults are also welcome. We are encouraging everyone interested in swimming to come along,” Mr Ramautar invited.
He said the continuity of the programme will be based on the interest of the community.
“People will lose out if they do not take advantage of it.”
Mr Ramautar can be contacted on 084 526 1961.
