What a waste!
Residents left feeling belittled and intimidated after meeting.
A waste of time.
That’s how residents described a meeting between representatives from the Amajuba District Municipality and residents of Dannhauser to discuss issues surrounding water services.
Scheduled to start at 5pm, the meeting only started half an hour later. An hour into it the light in the tent began dwindle and residents began to grow tired of the same old answers they were receiving. Ten minutes before the two hour mark, residents walked out of the meeting after municipality officials failed to sufficiently address the issues raised.
Not only could officials not sufficiently answer residents queries but also failed to take accountability for the problems experienced. They instead blamed it on the now defunct Uthukela Water.
The absence of the District Mayor, who called the meeting, didn’t go unnoticed and confirmed residents concerns that the Amajuba District were not serious about solving the issues.
When Mr Colin Krause asked the meeting be reconvened to a more decent hour and with proper notification given to members, and Mr Pravin Nair asked that the Amajuba Mayor address the next meeting, things went downhill.
Cllr Zwane, from Amajuba District said that the two requests were in contradiction of each other and that it didnt make sense. It was then that residents staged the walk-out, furious that they were belittled once again.
