AN idyllic situation awaits the hiker at Tepelkop. From the hiker’s well equipped house situated in the middle of the surrounding hills, the hike of just over 12 km starts off with a short walk through pasture land until the foot of the mountains are reached.
A steep climb up the side of Tepelkop follows with panoramic views back across the valley.
On Tepelkop fine examples of the Vingerpol succulent are in abundance. The trail passes a flat area of sandstone that offers beautiful views of distant mountains.
The trail follows the base of the rock krans with beautiful rock overhangs and formations. Tepelkop offers two day hikes and we strongly recommend it as a breakaway.
Ten hikers thoroughly enjoyed the fabulous accommodation and a well-marked hike. Friday night we enjoyed a home cooked meal provided by Ansie and Ettienne to celebrate Ettienne’s birthday. Sunday morning was spent at Clarence, with a “shopping hike”.
Next month’s hike will be at the Royal National Park – please contact Debbie for details at 083 292 1662.
