Search continues for missing, possibly drowned 5-year-old

The child went missing on Thursday last week while on her way home after school

The search for a 5-year-old child who is believed to have drowned last Thursday in the Ekuvukeni area is currently on the go.

Police officers – together with six search and rescue dogs from the Ladysmith Dog (K9) Unit, Empangeni K9 Unit, Port Shepstone K9 Unit and Pietermaritzburg K9 Unit – resumed the search for the missing child this morning (Thursday).

The child went missing on Thursday last week (October 16) while on her way home after school. It is alleged that she was crossing a stream when she was swept away in a flash flood.

Officers attached to the Ladysmith K9 Search & Rescue Unit have been searching ever since and with the additional manpower, an area consisting of mountainous terrain is being combed.
