Rugby star represents school in Mauritius

Senzo and his team, newcomers to the competition, exceeded all expectations and were placed second overall.

After succeeding at the Northern Natal Rugby trials, 1 -year-old Senzo Madi from Newcastle High School was selected to represent KwaZulu-Natal at the AFRISA Tournament in Mauritius recently.

The tournament was made up of teams from across the world. Senzo and his team, newcomers to the competition, exceeded all expectations and were placed second overall.

Aside from playing in the tournament, Senzo plays first-team rugby for NHS. “It was a great privilege to be selected; all the hard work has paid off. I have to thank every coach during my schooling career and my colleagues for all their support,” he admitted. “I wish to be an inspiration to the fellow pupils I leave behind.”

Playing since Grade 8, Senzo is looking forward to a career in rugby and is considering of attending the Pretoria Blue Bulls Rugby Academy in the near future.
