OVERHEAD conditions and a slightly damp pitch made it difficult for the batsmen to score runs last weekend!
Two games were played at Cecil Emmett Park, the first of which was on Saturday between Gladiators and Wicket Wasps. It was the first game of the Kingsmead Mynah’s Cup (30 overs) and Wicket Wasps batted first. The struggled to 114/10 after 14 overs with Ashley van den Heever (36) and P Nel (15) top scoring.
The best bowling figures for the Gladiators came from Mohammed Ashgar (4-0-22-4) and Wikus Janse van Rensburg (4.2-1-27-4). In the difficult conditions the Gladiators were bowled out for 70 in 14 overs with only Shazad (19) and Andrew Vorster (12) getting into double figures. Kobie Mare’ (4-0-19-4) and Andrew Brooks (4-0-27-4) did the damage with the ball. Wicket Wasps won by 44 runs.
On Sunday, the Scorpions played Mr X in a Kennedy Cup 40 over match. Scorpions batted first and scored 167/10 in the 37th over. Top scorers were Mohammed Ashgar (43) and Andrew Vorster (29). The best bowlers for Mr X were MJ Rossouw (9.1-3-29-4) and David Sandalls (2-1-7-1). With the weather and pitch conditions starting to improve, Mr X persevered and passed the target in the 28th over, thanks to good knocks from Miguel Machado (59) and Mathew Stride (51). Zia Rehman (2-0-16-1) and Siya Radebe (2-0-18-1) returned the best bowling figures for the Scorpions. Mr X won by 6 wickets.
