Local businessman combats poverty

Good Samaritan gives back to community.

A desperate situation caught the eye of a local businessman after he was approached to donate food parcels to needy families.
A 69-year-old lady, Gogo Mthembu of the Phiri family in Sibongile, lives in poor conditions in Sibongile.
A local businessman, Siqu Zungu, was touched by her plight.
The roof of her home has a number of large holes, and there is no food or furniture in the house. While visiting Gogo Mthembu, Mr Zungu was accompanied by Endumeni Mayor Thulani Mahaye, Endumeni Speaker Siduduzo Mdluli and Disaster Manager Bonginkosi Zulu, as well as a number of friends.
Food parcels were delivered to Gogo Mthembu, and Mr Zungu promised to provide roofing materials as well.
He also donated food parcels to the Makhathini family in Sibongile, and promised to buy ten bags of cement to repair cracks in the walls of their home, as the two-room house is on the verge of collapse.
Mr Zungu spent about R10 000 on the food parcels.
A blind man, Mr Dlamini, also received groceries from Mr Zungu and blessed him for his kindness. Mr Zungu also donated groceries to another family in Glencoe after he was approached by Councillor Mbhele and the mayor.
