Mad about wildlife and nature

"I don't want to be an old grumpy vet, I enjoy what I do"

Olaf Golze (45) is the new veterinarian in town. An enthusiastic traveller, adventurous and full of passion, Olaf has made a permanent home for himself in Glencoe. Olaf is an only-child born in Durban but raised in Gauteng. After completing his studies at Onderstepoort, Pretoria, he spent almost eight years in the United Kingdom practicing as a vet and travelling.

Olaf’s eyes sparkle as he reminisces about his travels and magnificent hikes up the world’s tallest mountains.
His adventures have taken him all the way to the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador, East Africa – where he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya, Alaska teamed with scientists tagging birds and the Himalayas in India. Olaf says his travels haven’t ended as he still plans to climb six more of the highest peaks on all the continents. Olaf plans to settle down in Glencoe on a long term basis.

“I don’t want to be an old grumpy vet, I enjoy what I do,” he says.
Olaf has been living in Dundee since February. He says that although he is not used to living in a small town, he enjoys the things one can do outside Dundee regarding wildlife and birds. He enjoys visiting Dr Plankie Fourie’s farm outside Dundee. Olaf also adds that he is currently studying a course specialising in birds which he aims to utilise by showcasing birds to tourists outside of South Africa.

Olaf’s favourite animal is a leopard and his favourite bird is a fish eagle.
