The SA Weather Service confirmed that they have received reports about the tornado but they cannot confirm anything as they have no weather stations situated in the Bloodriver area and thus it is very hard to reach.
The service’s Aslam Sardiwalla says Vryheid is on the borderline of their radar, making it difficult to confirm the twister with remote sensing.
A team is normally sent out to such areas to investigate and no one has been sent yet.
“Until we receive positive confirmed reports, only then can we confirm that there was a tornado or not. And even then it must still be authenticated as well,” he said.
No injuries were reported.
