Zishaan reels in success

The 11-year-old won R15 000 in a recent fishing competition.

At just 11 years old, Zishaan Mohamed is proving to be an outstanding angler.

The Dannhauser youngster recently made headlines when he won the Heaviest Carp category at the Riverside Angling Club’s Open Overnight Bank Angling Competition. Zishaan caught a carp weighing in at 3.52kgs which helped him bag the R15 000 grand prize.

This was the first time that a junior angler had walked away with the grand prize. Zishaan’s first fish caught was the heaviest one.Riverside Angling Club officials were amused by the youngster, who kept asking them throughout the da, if his carp was still the heaviest.

When his name was announced as the winner, he wasn’t surprised and collected his cheque, which was taller than him. He already has big plans of what he wants to do with the money.

When asked about the bait used to land his winning fish, Zishaan said it was a secret which he intended to keep close to his heart.

To make the win even sweeter, this was the first time Zishaan had entered a fishing competition, but it may not be his last. “I entered just for fun because I love fishing but I may enter more next year,” he said.

Fishing isn’t his only love though, he also enjoys playing cricket and is a huge John Cena fan. Zishaan thanked his uncles Anver and Fazel for all their help as well as Logan Govender from Riverside Angling Club for his support.
