Pastors use God’s name to scam people
'Pastors' uses new scam to try and con security company.
A new scam has hit the town and involves pastors using God to con people out of their hard earned money.
Yesterday, a local businessman was contacted by the so called pastors who said they were having a church function at the Civic Hall. They asked if they could acquire his security services for the event.
At 1pm today they deposited R8410 via cheque into his account. However, at 3pm they phoned again and said they could not make it as they did not have enough fuel for the journey.
They asked if he send back atleast R2000 to them so they could come down for the event.
The businessman, sensing something was fishy, told them they would have to wait as he still had to get some cash.
He then asked at the Civic Hall whether they had any bookings for the weekend and they confirmed that there was no church function to be held there.
Residents are urged to be cautious to avoid such scams.
