Is the Mandela statue gone and forgotten?

It’s one year since Nelson Mandela passed away and even his statue seems to have disappeared.

The Madiba statue, which stood outside the municipality for some time, became the talk of the town. Many went to pose with the Madiba statue or lay flowers at its feet after his passing.

However, the statue was also at the centre of a lot of controversy. Many will recall that the sculptors wanted Council to pay R2-million for the statue, or they would have sold it to other ‘interested buyers’.

Council weren’t keen though, and soon Madiba was kicked out.

So where is the statue now? Has it been buried away? Does it still live on somewhere else? Does anyone even the once iconic Madiba?
