NEIL Thompson, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor and a brown belt under Roy Dean, is visiting Kilian Academy for the next four weeks as part of an initiative to improve the standard of BJJ at the Academy.
Thompson, who has been training BJJ for seven years, has been a successful competitor at BJJ, winning several tournaments in the United States.
Kilian Academy, an affiliate of Roy Dean Academy, invited Neil Thompson to instruct Kilian Academy students at BJJ, in preparation for students to participate in BJJ-tournaments in South Africa next year. In addition to tournament preparation, Thompson’s involvement will see the level of BJJ reach new heights.
“From my experience, the level at Kilian Academy is on par with that of BJJ in the United States.“ states Thompson. “My time and contribution at the academy is to enrich the students and remind them of the effectiveness of the basics. When I return to the States, I hope to leave the academy with a set of skills that can contribute to the success of the academy and the growth of the students at the art of BJJ.”
Thompson added, “I appreciate the opportunity granted by the academy to experience new cultures and make new friends. I always seek opportunities to share my passion for BJJ with other people and this experience has provided memories that will last me a life time.“
Abrie Kilian, head instructor at Kilian Academy added that Thompson’s instruction is a great opportunity for the Academy to be established as one of the upcoming BJJ-academies in Southern Africa.
Thompson will also be grading two star students, Chris Venter and Charl Beukes for their blue belt, on December 12 and 13, respectively.
Chris Venter’s demo will be on December 12, from 6:00pm until 7:00pm and Charl Beukes will demo on December 13, from 11:00am until 12:00. The Academy will be open to any who are interested in visiting and witnessing the art of BJJ.
