Lending a helping hand
The food parcels are supplementing the schools’ holiday feeding schemes over the holiday period and also included toys for younger pupils as Christmas presents.
Ncandu 86 Round Table in conjunction with the Rotary Club set about delivering R80 000 worth of food parcels to various schools in Newcastle on December 4.
The parcels were delivered to Tugela, Amajuba and Ferrum High Schools as well as Huttenpark, Arbor Park and Drakensberg Primary Schools. The food parcels are supplementing the schools’ holiday feeding schemes over the holiday period and also included toys for younger pupils as Christmas presents.
Officials at the schools praised and thanked the initiative for the support.
“We are grateful for all the help; there are a lot of pupils who get neglected and need the support over the holiday,” said Drakensberg Primary School’s principal, Pieter Hanekom.
“This is a fantastic initiative; the children will really appreciate everything,” said Charlene Lombard, deputy principal of Amajuba High School.
The members of Ncandu 86 Round Table also took up the second leg of Game and East Coast Radio’s Toy Story with Game by dressing up one of their members as Santa Claus, and handing out toys donated to ECR’s Toy Story to children at Newcastle Provincial Hospital and Mediclinic Newcastle.
