Traffic eases on N3 after super-busy weekend

Traffic was at its peak, with volumes reaching over 2000 vehicles per hour at Mooi Plaza and Tugela Plaza

The bulk of holiday traffic passed through the N3 over the weekend, say RTI officials.

Saturday and Sunday were evidently the two busiest days, with holiday-makers travelling back home (up-country) from the coast.

Traffic was at its peak on these two days, with traffic volumes reaching over 2000 vehicles per hour at Mooi Plaza and Tugela Plaza. Three lanes were closed at Tugela Plaza yesterday (January 4) to regulate traffic flow up Van Reenen’s Pass.

There have only been two major accidents on the roads in the Ladysmith area during the holiday period, one of them being the major accident on the N11 in which four lives were lost. The other was the accident on the N3 up Van Reenen’s Pass where one life was lost.
