Sarel Cilliers High School’s Class of 2014 bettered their 2013 results by just over one percent with a matric pass rate of 92,36%.
Top student was the 2014 Dux, Morgan Gregory, with an A average of 81%. He achieved A symbols in Life Orientation and Graphic Design. His five B symbols were 79% for English, 79% for Intech, 76% for Maths, 77% for Afrikaans and 78% for Physical Science.
Morgan plans to study Mechanical Engineering in Potchefstroom this year.

 
He was closely followed by Virthi Tooray with an A average of 80%. Virthi excelled with four A’s in English, Afrikaans, Life Orientation and Life Science. Virthi is to study dentistry in Pretoria and is really looking forward to the challenge.
Other outstanding students included Amanda Achenpong with three A’s, Sanele Buthelezi (one A and three B’s) and Christina Meli (two A’s and two B’s).
Of the remaining 134 candidates, 121 passed, 10 failed while two did not complete the examinations.
Dr Tinus Neething, Sarel Cilliers principal, said he was happy with the results “considering the standard of the exams have improved over the previous years”.
