Bergville taxi crash claims a life and leaves others critical

Ealier today on the R74 near Bergville the driver and 14 other passengers were flung out of a powder blue taxi. It’s alleged that the driver of the taxi lost control of the vehicle after one of the tyres burst. The taxi rolled seven meters down an embankment. “When ER24 paramedics and other emergency services arrived on scene, they found people lying all over the scene including in a nearby ditch. The taxi driver was one of those initially ejected from the vehicle,” said ER24 Spokesperson, Chitra Bodasing. The driver was given advanced life support on scene. The passenger who was ejected succumbed to the injuries suffered and was declared deceased on scene. 13 other passengers, some of whom were also flung out of the moving vehicle, were treated on scene for minor to moderate injuries. Patients were later transported to the Ladysmith Provincial Hospital to recover form their injuries.
