Vryheid High School – The VHS family grows in 2015

THE expression ‘On the Ball’ implies that one is aware of and quick to respond to new ideas, which is definitely the case here at VHS.

We are proud to announce the appointment of four new educators: Ms J Hayward, C van Rensburg, L Cronje and Mr E le Roux. Welcome to these staff members and we trust you will soon become part of the VHS family. We are also beginning a new reading program with the Grade 8 and 9 learners. This innovative program will definitely improve their reading skills.

Class of 2014: Our grade 12 class of 2014 achieved great results with Quinton Verschuuren as our top achiever. His ENGHL 79%; AFRA 79%; GRMSA 75%; MATH 91%; LIFE 87%; ACCN 96%; GRDS 97% and PHSC 86% placed him fifth in the district. Other learners with five A’s were Aneesah Cassim; Tegan Kelly; Sigrid Klingenberg; Antoinette Minlah and Anja Paul. Tanja Filter; Harry Kitney; Namisa Lubhede; Noluthando Mpofu; Lethukuthula Ndebele and Ilse van den Berg each obtained four A’s, while seven learners obtained three A symbols.

A total of 128 subject distinctions were obtained with the following subjects achieving an average of 60% or more: ENGHL; ENGFA; AFRFA; ZULFA; ACCN; MLIT; HOSP; GRMSA and LIFE. 57% of the learners pass with the necessary requirement for admission to a bachelor’s degree. Although we have learners that did not achieve, we are pleased with the fact that we still manage a pass rate well above provincial and national averages.
