GALLERY: Vryheid Cricket Club – Middle order mayhem for Mr X

Mr X reached the target in the 14th over, not without a middle order "hiccup" losing six wickets for 22 runs, mainly due to Zia Rehman claiming four wickets for 37 runs in his four overs which included a hat-trick.

TWO games were played last weekend at Cecil Emmett Park.

On Saturday, Mr X played the Gladiators in a Kingsmead Mynah’s Cup league game. The Gladiators batted first and scored a modest 101 all out in the 22nd over. Mohamed Ashgar (34) and Zia Rehman (24 not out) were top scorers for the Gladiators. Mathew Stride (5-0-31-6) and Kyle Taylor (3-1-4-2) were the leading wicket takers.

Mohammed Ashgar (6-0-38-3) also bowled well. Run scorers for Mr X were Clifford Dougherty (25) and Kyle Taylor (19). Mr X won by three wickets.

On Sunday, in a rain delayed Kennedy Cup match, Wicket Wasps played Mr X. Wicket Wasps batted first and were all dismissed for 128 in the 23rd over, with Ashley van den Heever (22) and Rudo Scholtz (14) top scoring. The best bowlers for Mr X were Devin Aspden (6-1-32-4) and Kyle Taylor (4-0-12-1).

In a tight finish, Mr X experienced yet another middle order collapse, losing seven wickets for 23 runs, falling just seven runs short of the target. Philip Schutte displayed a fine spell of spin bowling and ended with figures of 6-0-19-4. Also in the wickets was Nicolaas Booysen (5-2-7-3). Top scoring for Mr X were brothers Mathew (24) and Nathan Stride (21). Wicket Wasps won by seven runs.
