ON A MISSION to renew hope and encourage fellow Christians is Peter Cairncross who is doing a bicycle ride tour around South Africa.
His journey started off in his hometown Somerset West in Cape Town in September 2013 and has been on the road for 16 months.
He has already been to 64 towns around South Africa on his bicycle, among which he mentioned Virginia in the Free State.
Mr Cairncross says that the support he has been receiving from people in all these towns has been astounding.
He arrived in Vryheid last week and was given a very warm welcome by members of the Freedom Life Church.
This traveller says that he stayed at the home of Terry and Miriam Levenridge who took good care of him and were very hospitable.
“They treated me like a long lost son,” he marvelled.
After years of not finding a job and feeling discouraged, Mr Cairncross says that he started seeking his true purpose in the world.
“I felt that this was my calling, the Lord wanted me to go around and spread the good news to his people,” he said.
Mr Cairncross is certain that he was called by God to start this journey as He has taken good care of him all the way and he has never gone a day without food or shelter.
Travelling between 25 to 30 km’s per day, he is certain that he should be back in Cape Town by the end of this year.
With a face full of cheer and a heart that’s determined, Peter Cairncross is set on spreading the message of hope around South Africa one lap at a time.
