Sarel show plenty of guts against Kearsney College

An unfortunate conversion miss meant Sarel missed the opportunity to go two points clear of their more illustrious opponents.

A gutsy Sarel Cilliers first rugby team held their own against a powerful a Kearsney College team in a finely contested game played in Glencoe yesterday.

Down 3-15 at half-time the boys in blue and white fought back with two tries in the second stanza.  An unfortunate conversion miss meant Sarel missed the opportunity to go two points clear of their more illustrious opponents.

The home team appeared to tire in the latter half of the second half and Kearsney managed to cross their try line three more times making the final score 15-30.

For coaches Steven Brown, Dave van der Westhuizen and Dirk Froneman (a former Springbok) it was not such a disappointment as their Sarel team had shown a lot of passion.  Barend of Kearsney College admitted that the tackles had been long and hard.  He praised Sarel for their commitment.

Kearsney College was on a short tour of Northern KZN and on Monday drew 18-18 with Pionier.
