‘Petals’ of empowerment
Pupils handed out roses, spreading love and sharing a smile with female patients and staff.
Running the world one rose at a time, the members of St Dominic’s Academy’s Girl Power Circle visited MediClinic Newcastle on February 11.
Pupils handed out roses, spreading love and sharing a smile with female patients and staff.
Facilitators, Mrs Raghoo and Ms Gregory welcomed the following pupils to this year’s circle: Megen Rajah, Matha Mnisi, Ayesha Dawjee, Laiya Mahomed, Buhlebenkosi Zondo and Rianna Ramdharee.
Haseena and Shameema Patel, founders of Leave No Girl Behind International, established the Girl Power Circle in 2013.
Not only were pupils given an opportunity to reach out and empower others, they met and interacted with pupils from Lincoln Heights Secondary School and Amajuba High School power circles.
Here is what the pupils thought of the overall experience:
“We handed out flowers to the women and children. I had a great time. The hospital was interesting,”- Rianna Ramdharee.
“I had so much fun at the hospital on Wednesday. I enjoyed seeing the women smile when they got roses,”- Buhlebenkosi Zondo.
“The experience was very enjoyable for me. It touched me to see how a simple gesture like a rose and a little card can change a patient’s whole mood and bring a beautiful smile to all their faces,”- Laiya Mahomed.
“It was amazing! It made me so happy and it felt good to make people smile,”- Megen Rajah.
“My experience was great, especially giving someone a rose and making them smile. It also made me appreciate my health,”- Ayesha Dawjee.
