The drought is here to stay

Residents who waste water will be charged.

80% of the district’s water resources have dried up, due to the recent drought which has hit the Umzinyathi District.

Pradeep Ramlall, Umzinyathi District’s Water Services Manager, provided the shocking statistic during a press briefing to address the drought disaster.

Mayor, Reverend James Mthethwa, said that people who are wasting water would be named, shamed and charged.

He called on all residents to use water sparingly or face punitive measures.

Mayor Mthethwa added that they had budgeted funds towards drought management and would do everything they could to ensure the precious resource will still be flowing in taps around the district.
