Studying snakes at Monument
The brave pupils handled the scary snakes fearlessly and with utmost respect
Snake removal expert Fanie Cilliers and his “slithery serpents” made their way to Monument Primary School on Wednesday last week for an educational presentation about reptiles.
Fanie spoke to the pupils specifically about snakes and what role they play in the world, keeping the rodent population in check.
The talk also went into detail about snake venom and how it affects the human body. The main focus was on what to do if you get bitten by a snake. Get to a doctor immediately!
Fanie also demonstrated the correct way of handling snakes. However, he stressed to the children that if they encounter one, they should not attempt to catch it. Rather, step back and call a teacher or a parent who can then call a snake expert to safely remove and relocate it.
