Bakkie crashes into pedestrians in Lyell Street
Both pedestrians were seriously injured
2 pedestrians have been seriously injured after a bakkie crashed into them in Lyell Street this afternoon (Saturday).
3 people in the bakkie were also injured.
Onlookers at the scene said the bakkie was travelling towards the train station when the driver seemed to lose control and careened into the pedestrians who were walking on the pavement.
There were 3 people walking on the sidewalk at the time. The person who was not hit commented that, “I was walking with my 2 friends and the next moment, I didn’t see them anymore.”
Sharaj, Public Safety and police responded.
The injured were stabilised at the scene and then transported to hospital, with the ambulance being escorted by Public Safety.
The slow lane heading into town was closed, as the bakkie was still on the roadway.
Public Safety officers directed traffic safely away from the scene.
