N3 closed yet again as truck rolls
Traffic was backed up on the highway for almost 6km

The N3 was closed again during the early hours of this morning (Saturday) when a Freightliner truck transporting cars rolled just after the Bergville Toll Plaza heading northbound. A previous accident last night at Van Reenen saw a VW Polo being crushed under a truck. Both north and southbound lanes were closed after this accident, in which 8 people were injured.
The car carrier rolled onto its side, flinging out 5 vehicles and leaving them strewn across the N3 and off the roadside.
The driver of the truck was treated at the scene by EMRS paramedics and then taken to hospital for further treatment of slight injuries.
Both northbound lanes were closed and traffic was backed up on the highway for almost 6km.
Clean-up operations began early this morning, with the vehicles being towed off the road as quickly as possible so that traffic could flow freely again on the N3. The truck was towed off the road by a “rig”.
N3TC, with the help of towing services, cleared the roadway and traffic started to move again.
RTI also responded to carry out traffic control duties.
