On Friday, March 20 we staged the third Relay for Life in the Drakensberg. After months of hard work and commitment from our local committee and some very unsettled weather, the day dawned as a beautiful, warm, clear autumn day and night.

There was a great response from the community who entered 23 teams to take part in the Relay and do their best to raise funds for CANSA, that is the national organisation working towards beating cancer by research, education and awareness. The committee would like to thank all those who took part in the event and entered into it with such good spirit, making such an effort to produce colourful stands, delicious food and fun for the spectators.

At the centre of the track we were entertained by musicians from the ‘Berg, Fred and fellow friends, Sean Swanson of Sound Mechanix and the DJs Bruce Marx and Brandon Lourens. The music and light-hearted banter kept the participants energised and motivated to keep going throughout the night. A big thank you to them for playing such a big role in creating the atmosphere and spirit that prevailed.

With music, entertainment, good food and fun we saw teams walking, some individuals running and others just being there to support throughout the night and being able to witness a beautiful sunrise on Saturday morning. The committee would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to all who participated, generously donated and unselfishly gave of their time and energy to make this the great success it was.
