Family brawl ends in dad’s murder?
The elderly man was badly beaten and stabbed in the head, leaving him unconscious and fighting for his life

61-year-old Mr Danny Maharaj is dead after an argument between him and his son turned deadly on Wednesday night last week.
It is alleged that the elderly man was arguing with his 36-year-old son (has not appeared in court yet) and that the altercation escalated into a physical assault.
It is believed that the father and son were estranged and were possibly trying to repair their relationship. Ties between the son and his dad were allegedly strained.
On Wednesday night last week, the son went to his father’s home in Tanjore Road. During the course of the evening, an argument broke out which ended in a vicious assault.
The elderly man was badly beaten and stabbed, leaving him unconscious and fighting for his life.
Police, including Crime Intelligence Gathering officers, rushed to the scene. Neighbours were shocked at what had happened, and looked on in astonishment as the son was led towards an SAPS vehicle.
The father was rushed to Ladysmith Provincial Hospital by Sharaj Ambulance Services, where he was in a comma for 5 days. He passed away yesterday morning (Monday).
The son has been held in custody since the incident and a charge of murder is being investigated. He is set to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court today (Tuesday).
