Ezakheni police have appealed to anyone who might have information about the shooting of 4 men in the Ezakheni area on Friday night to come forward.

On April 10 just before 8pm, 4 males aged between 31 and 33 were found dead in their silver-grey VW Polo with multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies in Ezakheni C-section near Makhuzeni Store.

Among the dead was a police officer attached to the Ladysmith Tactical Response Team (TRT).

The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage.

The deceased have been identified as Constable Mboniseni Zungu (33), Thanda (31) and Nkosiyakhe Mabaso (33). The 4th deceased has not been formally identified at this stage.

A number of high calibre cartridges were recovered at the scene.

A case of murder (four counts) was opened at Ezakheni police station and was transferred to the Pietermaritzburg Organised Crime Unit for investigation.

Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni (KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner) has condemned the senseless killings. “Surely someone, somewhere witnessed or has information about the incident. We appeal to our community members to assist the police in this investigation. Such a heinous attack is unacceptable and we will thoroughly investigate the case to make sure the perpetrators are brought to book. It is a great loss to the SAPS that we lost one of our police officers in the attack,” she said.
