Maintenance Misery

The aggrieved woman was also given numerous dates on which her estranged husband was supposed to appear in court, but they proved to be unfruitful.

A local woman has faced maintenance misery and, as a result, is being owed a sum of R100 000 in maintenance.
This comes after the woman had not received maintenance or child support for her son for the past nine years.
The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, alleged that after she divorced her husband, ‘he stated that he would become a hobo’.
True to his word, he did just that and as a result has not paid maintenance since 2006.
The woman has been left with caring for herself and her son. She has approached the Dundee Magistrates Court numerous times to receive help but has received no joy.
The aggrieved woman was also given numerous dates on which her estranged husband was supposed to appear in court, but they proved to be unfruitful.
According to an unofficial source from the Maintenance Department at the Court, “the court acknowledges that the woman had not received maintenance for many years, however, this is due to the ex-husband being unemployed which in turn results in his failure to pay maintenance”.
The source also added that, ‘another date has been issued as the State is organising funds for him to be transported to the Court in order to make arrangements for compensation’.
The Maintenance Investigating Officer was contacted but at the time of going to print, no response had been received.
