Prominent businessman killed in attempted hijacking

Two men stormed towards the bakkie, opening fire

Returning from his general store in the Driefontein area,  Abu Baker Omarjee was shot and wounded in what appears to have been an attempted hijacking.

He later died of his injuries at La Verna Hospital.

According to an initial report, he was travelling with his son back to Ladysmith at around 4pm. They stopped along the road in the Hobsland area to drop off a staff member who lived nearby.

Two men stormed towards the bakkie, opening fire and hitting the front and side of the vehicle. The Omarjees sped away from the scene. Omarjee senior was hit.
