Update: Funeral of prominent businessman killed in attempted hijacking

The funeral procession will leave the premises of 31 Simla Road at 12.15am, followed by Janaza prayer

The funeral of Mr Aboobaker Omarjee, who was killed in an attempted hijacking this afternoon, will take place in the early hours of tomorrow morning (Wednesday).

Janaza Salah (last prayer before one is buried) will be held at the Musjide Maseehulah in Rose Park at 12.15am – Simla Road Qabrastan.

Mr Omarjee was known to many as “Baboo” from Madevu Stalls in Driefontein.

Social media sites are abuzz with the news of his tragic death. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Mr Omarjee was returning from his general store in the Driefontein area when he was shot and wounded in what appears to have been an attempted hijacking. Two men stormed towards the bakkie he was in, opening fire and hitting Mr Omarjee (Baboo).

He was rushed to La Verna Hospital, where he was declared deceased.

At this stage, the suspects are still at large.
