Becoming a bodybuilding champion
This is a very tough mental sport, as it is not only what you do in the gym, but what you do afterwards that counts the most

Gerhardus Martinus ‘Marnus’ de Lange took part in the IFBB North West Bodybuilding Championship on April 11, which took place in Rustenburg.
He won both the U/23 and (Senior Men’s) 70kg categories, and was also the overall champion. Marnus was head boy at Ladysmith High School (LHS) in 2010. He played first team rugby, as well as first team cricket.
Marnus started training in a gym in November 2011 after reaching 98kg.
It was only in May 2012 that he started training and eating properly the bodybuilding way.
This is a very tough mental sport, as it is not only what you do in the gym, but what you do afterwards that counts the most.
Your diet is far more important than how you train, as you need to refuel your body to get the maximum required results for your body.
Marnus competed in the 70kg category, coming into his division at 68.6kg. This means he shed 28.4kg to look the way he does at 3% body fat.
Marnus is a great inspiration and motivator for everybody at Get Physical Gym in Ladysmith, and the team loves it when he is down for the weekends and holidays. Marnus is always ready to help and give sound advice to whoever needs it. Well done, Marnus!
“I would like to thank my parents, Ds Gerhard and Lianda de Lange, as well as my sister Jomari and Trevor Witthöft for all their love, encouragement and support,” says Marnus.
