Wanted suspect arrested for gym owner’s murder

Ladysmith detectives manage to trace his whereabouts and arrest Drew.

The third suspect in the murder case of gym owner Mr Uraj ‘Joe’ Ahir has been arrested.

The suspect, Faizel Drew, has been on the run since the brutal attack. Ladysmith detectives managed to trace Drew’s whereabouts and arrest him in Foxburg, Johannesburg, yesterday (Thursday).

44-year-old gym owner Mr Ahir was found lying in bed at his home in Oswald Rapson Road on Monday, April 7 last year. A postmortem investigation determined that he had sustained injuries consistent with an assault. A case of murder was opened and an investigation into his death began.

Officers from Ladysmith Detective Services and the Ladysmith Dog (K9) Unit initially arrested two suspects, aged 23 and 36, in the Hillside area of Ladysmith on Monday, May 26 last year.

Drew is set to be officially charged with the murder later today.
