It’s all about the patient’s life

Being a paramedic isn't about the money, it's about saving a patient's life.

Being a paramedic isn’t about the money, it’s about saving a patient’s life.

That was the sentiment shared by two paramedics based in the Endumeni area who are committed to saving lives.
Qiniso ‘Q’ Ntuli and Nakedi Matjokane work for Res-Q Medix, a private ambulance service that operates in Dundee, Nquthu and Newcastle.

With the qualified assistance of two doctors, Dr Mbonani and Dr Rhamdaree and a nurse, the seven-member team of paramedics are always ready to lend a helping hand.

Res-Q Medix also boasts having the only Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedic in the area.

“It’s quite a strenuous job and you’re away from family but we do it for the love of the job and saving lives,” said Nakedi.

“It’s all about the patient’s life,” Q said. “You don’t do this job because you need a job, you do it because you want to help others,” she added.

Nakedi also spoke of the mental fortitude needed for the job, especially when it came to dealing with gruesome accident scenes.

“We have to have a debriefing afterwards and sometimes we need counselling to deal with some of the things we see.”

They both said, however, that the support of fellow paramedics always gets them through even the most gruesome of scenes.
Res-Q Medix can be contacted on 071 223 8407 or 084 660 8466 in case of an emergency.
