A solution for Anika’s water woes

However, young Anika's resistance to infections and diseases is greatly reduced by the effect of the chemotherapy, therefore making the brave little girl's susceptibility to a life threatening infection much greater.

FOLLOWING recent concerns about the safety of Vryheid’s drinking water and the health of three year old Anika Benade, Damien Fynn of Aqua Solutions in Vryheid donated and installed a water purification system in the Benade family home.

Anika, who suffers from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, was recently admitted to hospital with a bladder infection which, at the time (Vryheid Herald, April 24), was believed by her doctor to be caused by eColi bacteria.

AfriForum stepped in to investigate the matter upon hearing of Anika’s ill health. After testing water from the Benade home however, there was no evidence of eColi or Faecal Coliform bacteria present at the time, thus implying that the water was, at that time, safe for human consumption after all.

However, young Anika’s resistance to infections and diseases is greatly reduced by the effect of the chemotherapy, therefore making the brave little girl’s susceptibility to a life threatening infection much greater.

With the presence of the water filtration and purification system in their home, thanks to the compassionate gesture by Fynn and Aqua Solutions, the Benade family can rest easy knowing that Anika now has access to clean and safe drinking water at all times.
