Come on AbaQulusi, set the example

WATER restrictions were imposed by AbaQulusi Municipality last week, “with immediate effect”. With months of dry weather ahead, and a failed rainy season behind, our storage dams are already under pressure.

But apparently no one has told the municipal workers about the restrictions. The municipal bakkie in the photograph was spotted in Uitlander Street last Friday. The workers had turned on a fire hydrant to clean the bakkie and the equipment they’d used to clear a drain. But look at all that wasted water flowing down the street! Hundreds if not thousands of litres of water literally going down the drain.

How are residents supposed to take the restrictions seriously if the municipality doesn’t? Well, they have to or otherwise they’re penalised R15 per kilolitre. So who’s paying for the waste in Uitlander Street last Friday?
