The Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal has called on people with knowledge of ‘posts in the department being sold for cows, sheep and money to come forward to the commission of enquiry and assist the commission.

Muzi Mahlambi, education spokesman, was reacting to an article in City Press titled  “Sadtu still selling posts”

“The article paints a portrait of corruption within the Department, of which we as the department condemns heavily.

“The article talks about lucrative positions within the Department that are being allegedly sold to people.

“These allegations are not new to an extent that a commission of enquiry under the leadership of Professor John Volmink was appointed by the National Minister of basic Education, Angie Motshekga to look in to these allegations.

“We urge anyone with information or evidence to step forward to the commission of enquiry and assist the commission.

“Apart from all these allegations, which include the department is on a verge of collapsing there are many achievements that this article clearly failed to mention such as the launch of Telematics, Ambassadorship programmes, Teacher Training, Tools of trade procurement and Distribution, the occupation of major vacancies , the prompt distribution of LTSM.”
