15 years for murder and robbery

PATRICK Mlamuli ‘Malema’ Mabaso was recently sentenced to 15 years in prison for murder and robbery by the Madadeni High Court.

Mabaso (23) had been convicted for killing and robbing Mbongiseni Bhekinkosi Mthimkhulu in 2013.

According to a report by IOL News, the crime took place on June 24, 2013 at approximately 10:30pm. Mthimkhulu was at Lakeside near Vryheid when he was approached by the accused. There was an argument between the two and the victim was subsequently stabbed repeatedly by the accused and struck with a hammer. Mabaso fled the scene of the crime, taking with him the victim’s bank cards and other property.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcomed the sentence, thanking the Vryheid detectives who thoroughly investigated the case.

“It’s obvious that they gathered sufficient evidence to ensure that the accused was convicted.”
