Thousands arrested in KZN’s Operation Fiela

The aim of the operation is to target those areas who harbour criminals and to seize dangerous weapons, illegal firearms, stolen goods and drugs

Operation Fiela continues raking in major successes, with joint operations between SAPS, SANDF, the Department of Home Affairs and Metro Police resulting in a total of 12,171 suspects being arrested throughout KwaZulu-Natal.

The aim of the operation is to target those areas that harbour criminals and to seize dangerous weapons, illegal firearms, stolen goods and drugs that are in the hands of criminals, as well as arrest wanted suspects.

Since the inception of the operation, police have arrested 223 suspects for murder; 137 for possession of unlicensed firearms; 169 for rape; 146 for robbery, housebreaking, possession of drugs, stock theft, theft, assault, fraud, kidnapping, stock theft and other cases.

These suspects have appeared in various courts in the province to face criminal charges.

During the operation, drugs, liquor, cell-phones, jewellery, counterfeit goods, electronic appliances, firearms and ammunition were recovered.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, applauded all the role-players for the arrest of suspects throughout the province. “These operations have yielded positive results and we are very proud of the hard wok displayed by all those involved. We will continue with these operations to ensure that those who break the law are brought to book,” she said.
