Three-car smash at McKenzie/Willson Street intersection

This intersection is notorious for accidents.

Three cars were involved in a collision shortly before midday at the McKenzie/Willson Street intersection.  It is not clear, at this stage, who was at fault.

However, the driver of a NGL Golf said he was approaching the intersection with a coal truck adjacent to his car, in the next lane.

“I think the driver of the bakkie – that was turning from Willson Street into McKenzie Street – had his view obscured by the truck.  When I drove into the intersection he drove in front of me, hit my car and then careened into a Corolla that was on McKenzie Street,” said the Golf driver.

The bakkie driver appeared to disagree, claiming that ‘someone was trying to beat the red traffic light’. Police were on the scene, carefully measuring any break marks – that could be seen against the backdrop of the badly faded road markings.
